Join us for a detailed exploration of the foundational level of the Buddhist path of meditation and insight, also known as the “Hinayana.” Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche characterizes this level as the “direct or immediate path” in the sense that it is focused on one’s direct or immediate experience of suffering and the potential for liberation. In this series of talks, we will follow the detailed presentation of provided in Trungpa Rinpoche’s first volume of the recently published three-volume set, The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma. This series, open to all, will resonate with both beginning meditators and the most seasoned students of Buddhism. The topics covered in part three build on the detailed exploration of the practice of meditation covered in part two, and are focused on the practice of insight meditation. For those attending the series regularly, the talks present a progressive journey; for drop-in or new attendees, each talk can be understood on its own. This series is a part of the WBC core curriculum.

In addition, once per month John Baker will host an Open House (Dharma Gathering), which provides new and experienced practitioners a chance to explore a wider range of Buddhist topics from meditation in everyday life to advanced theory and practice.

Each of our Wednesday meetings begins with a period of mindfulness-awareness meditation, with detailed personal instruction available. For those attending the course regularly, a copy of the source text is available for purchase at a discount when registering for the series.

Derek Kolleeny and John Baker are two of the founders and senior teachers of the Westchester Buddhist Center; Warner Dick is one of WBC’s next-generation teachers. For over ten years now, WBC has focused on the authentic presentation of the teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Derek and John both studied directly with Trungpa Rinpoche, and have been practicing and teaching in his tradition for more than 40 years.
