Applications are still being accepted for the 2018 Profound Treasury Retreat West September 28 – October 7 at the Blazing Mountain Retreat Center in Crestone, Colorado. The theme of the 2018 retreat is Warmth, Sanity, and Compassionate Engagement: the Bodhisattva Path. We will focus on the mahayana teachings as presented in Volume Two of The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma: The Bodhisattva Path of Wisdom and Compassion. Our emphasis will be on how to apply these teachings in our daily life — in our work, our relationships, and our interconnection with the environment. Please apply online at our newly-expanded website, www.ProfoundTreasuryWest.com , which will serve as the main reference point for all retreat information.
Fear and Courage: Rising to the Challenge of Wakefulness
Practice Teachings of Chögyam Trungpa
A Retreat with Judy Lief
June 15 - 24, 2018 Ferry Beach Retreat Center Saco, Maine
The focus of this retreat will be on the interplay of fear and courage on the three stages of the Tibetan Buddhist path (hinayana, mahayana, and vajrayana). Each stage provides us with particular challenges to overcome as well as the skills and insights we need to face those challenges. By dealing with challenges, we become stronger. We learn how to cut through fear and hesitation and engage the world with confidence, wakefulness, and compassion.
- the hinayana no-nonsense path of bravely facing the pain of life, practicing loving kindness, and refraining from harm.
- the heroic path of the bodhisattva warrior, which joins profound vision with unlimited compassion for all beings.
- the vajrayana uncompromising path, in which fear leads to the discovery of sacredness and the possibility of dropping pretensions and hesitations and taking a leap into a profoundly confident and visionary way of being.
During this retreat, we will draw from all three volumes of The Profound Treasury, which cover the hinayana, mahayana and vajrayana teachings of the Vidyadhara, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. The Profound Treasury is based on thirteen years of lectures given by the Vidyadhara at the Vajradhatu Seminaries, advanced programs for his senior students. Judith Lief, a close student of the Vidyadhara, is a Buddhist teacher and the editor of The Profound Treasury.
Last year the retreat was full and we expect the same in 2018.

Naropa University is pleased to announce the establishment of the Chogyam Trungpa Institute at Naropa. Chogyam Trungpa founded NaropaUniversity in 1974 as a place to foster both intellect and intuition, and tospark curiosity and deep inquiry. His inspiration to create a Buddhist inspired, non-sectarian University rooted in Contemplative Education and integrating Eastern Wisdom Studies with Western scholarship has infusedthe university and its development. From that vision Naropa became the birthplace of the modern mindfulness movement, while retaining deep connections to the world’s wisdom traditions.
