This course will be an introduction to the basic ideas and structures of the Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhist path.  The teachers are students of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and carry on his approach, which was to translate the foreign forms of Tibetan Tantric Buddhism into an idiom which makes deep sense to Americans.

We will study the three-stage structure of the path, its basic doctrines and practices, beginning with the Hinayana or so-called “foundational vehicle,” and continuing on to the Mahayana, or “greater vehicle,” and culminating with the Vajrayana, or “indestructible, diamond-like vehicle.”

We will begin by reading Trungpa Rinpoche’s book, Cutting through Spiritual Materialism.  In subsequent courses we will use texts from Trungpa Rinpoche and a variety of other authors.

All students who choose to participate are expected to have a daily meditation practice, however short (suggested length: 20 minutes or more), and to periodically attend our group meditation instructor meetings.
