Special Community Announcement

Dear friends and fellow community members,

After eleven wonderful years of practice and study and community, Westchester Buddhist Center has now gone through a great metamorphosis. We temporarily withdrew for our usual summer break and instead of renewing simply refreshed, as in the past, now we are emerging into our completely new manifestation as not one but two new organizations!

When we start up again in early September, John will be continuing his dharma activities through his new organization, The Path of Awakening Buddhist Center, found here; while Jane, Gene and Derek will be continuing their dharma activities through their new organization, Westchester Meditation Center, found here. For now, we are both resuming all of our activities online, using Zoom; when we are able to meet in-person we will certainly let you know!

We are very happy that over the past five months we were able to continue our activities during the pandemic. It has been a very challenging time for all of us given the very real threat of disease, the profound isolation, the mounting economic worries, the increasing realization of the depth and extent of racial and gender inequity and abuse, and the resulting tumultuous unrest throughout our nation. We hope that you have both taken time for self-care and provided support for your families and communities, and have thereby been able to weather this storm with strength, love and compassion.

Thank you all for the gift of your companionship on the path of meditation and study! We look forward to connecting with you all again soon!

With love and gratitude,

Jane, Gene, John, Derek

Transform Your Mind – Transform Your World

Westchester Buddhist Center (WBC) is dedicated to the practice and study of Buddhism in general, and to the teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in particular ("Cutting through Spiritual Materialism"; "Shambhala: Sacred Path of the Warrior"). Trungpa Rinpoche’s teaching style made Buddhism accessible to Western minds and lifestyles from the early 1970s until the late 1980s, and brought the Shambhala Buddhist teachings on creating enlightened society to the West.

WBC was formed in 2009 in order to share the Tibetan Buddhist teachings and meditation practices propagated by Trungpa Rinpoche with friends and neighbors in Westchester County, New York. We also offer in-depth, text-based courses, and periodically host visiting Tibetan teachers and other noteworthy speakers, movies and other events.

The Center is led by four senior students of Rinpoche: Jane and Derek Kolleeny, John Baker and Gene Bobker.  Teaching according to the perspective of Trungpa Rinpoche, all of WBC's teachers emphasize an experiential Buddhism, one focused on ordinary, daily life. New and seasoned practitioners of all traditions are welcome!
