TALKS BY VISITING TEACHER

Kyabgon Phakchok Rinpoche

Phakchok Rinpoche has been teaching tirelessly in both the East and West. Rinpoche’s teachings are direct, lively, and practical with a strong emphasis on the view of the Great Perfection, the uncontrived non-conceptual meditation of Mahamudra, the tireless implementation of the Bodhisattva’s conduct, and the Mahayana’s teachings on wisdom and compassion.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The Noble Wisdom of Passing Sutra

Westchester Buddhist Center was delighted to present this rare occasion to study and practice the essence of the Tibetan Buddhist meditation system with one of its greatest, most youthful and dynamic masters. Most meditation techniques seek to calm and focus the mind by placing the attention on an object such as the breath or an image or by mindfully watching and letting go of thoughts. These techniques are actually only applying patches onto the various symptoms of the mind’s essential uneasiness, instead of dealing directly with the root of the situation.

Mahamudra meditation addresses the mind’s core fixation with which we are all born ‐ the continual need to structure every moment of our awareness. With the techniques developed by Buddhist meditation masters over the course of two millennia, we can learn how to resolve this incessant struggle and release the mind’s fundamental creative energy of compassion and wisdom. In this weekend program, Rinpoche presented the view and specific techniques, and then lead participants through guided meditations sessions in the main stages of the practice along with open discussion, and everyone had a chance to meet him personally.

In the Friday night talk, Rinpoche presented an overview of this tradition and practice. During the day‐long program on Saturday, Rinpoche lead a practice workshop consisting of instructions, meditation and discussion. Sunday morning, Rinpoche was our special guest at our regular weekly dharma gathering with a talk on “Why Meditate: Bringing the Mind of Meditation into our Daily Life”.
