ABOUT THE COURSE SERIES “THE WAY OF THE BUDDHA”

A year-long foundational course in 3 semesters (Fall 2019, Winter 2020, Spring 2020), “The Way of the Buddha.” Join us as we explore the authentic path of mindfulness-awareness meditation and insight as originally described by the Buddha and skillfully transmitted to the West by one of the great Tibetan masters of our time. We will cover such topics as the life of the Buddha, the birth of confusion and suffering, karma, and the path back to sanity, focusing on the techniques and stages of meditation and bringing meditation into our daily lives. Starts on September 22. Students may enroll for all three semesters, for one semester, or attend individual classes on a “drop-in” basis.

ABOUT THE COURSE

Join us as we explore the authentic path of meditation and insight as originally described by the Buddha and skillfully transmitted to the West by one of the great Tibetan masters of our time, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. We will explore such topics as the life of the Buddha, the birth of confusion and suffering, karma, and the path back to sanity, focusing on the techniques and stages of meditation and bringing meditation into our daily lives. The material will be presented in talks and group discussion.

Readings will be from a wide variety of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s writings, which will be provided in a source book available in both printed and digital versions.  Each class will begin with 30 minutes of meditation, followed by a talk and discussion on the topics covered in the readings.  Audio recordings of all classes, including both talk and discussion, will be available online.

This series is recommended for both beginning and experienced practitioners, and is designed to benefit participants whether or not they can attend regularly. This course is the perfect next step for those that participated in the Walking in the Footsteps of the Buddha course last year.

The course will be given across three semesters, each with twelve class sessions:

  1. Fall Semester — Discovering Reality: Neurosis, Sanity, and the Way of Meditation

  2. Winter Semester — Transforming Suffering into Compassion: Insight, Egolessness and Buddha Nature

  3. Spring Semester — The Path of the Bodhisattva: Motivation, Wisdom and Compassionate Activity

This series is recommended for both beginning and experienced practitioners, and is designed to benefit participants whether or not they can attend regularly.
