Garrison Institute: Learn to Meditate – End of Summer Special Retreat
August 21-23, 2020
A limited number of partial scholarships are available for those with financial need. For more information, please refer here.
Retreat practice provides the opportunity to step away from the speed and habitual patterns of our daily life, providing the space for us to deepen our practice and understanding. This 3-day retreat, led by Jane and Derek Kolleeny, is appropriate for new meditators, those with a developed practice, and those simply seeking renewal in the serenity of a contemplative environment. We will begin with learning how to meditate and then progress to examining ourselves and our practice thoroughly—bringing mindfulness into daily life and working with our emotions. The program will include sitting and walking meditation, talks and guided meditations inspired by the book Mindfulness in Action by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche (attendees will receive a free copy), group discussion, and yoga. During breaks, one can walk our labyrinth and trails, relax in the sauna, or simply enjoy the contemplative setting. Our caterer, Fresh Company, will provide healthy, delicious vegetarian meals, featuring locally grown and produced ingredients, served buffet-style. For those with food sensitivities, ingredients will be listed for each dish served. For those with special dietary needs, you may bring any supplemental items you require.
This retreat will be held in partial silence.
Teachers: Jane and Derek Kolleeny are Co-Founders and Senior Teachers of Westchester Buddhist Center.

By Garrison Institute. From 6.07.2020
Surrounded by natural beauty and far from the clamor of our busy lives, the serenity of the Garrison Institute offers the ideal conditions for contemplative practice. Participating in a group retreat is an important way to deepen one’s practice of meditation, settling our minds and opening our hearts.
During this 7-night immersive retreat, participants will focus on the practice of mindfulness and awareness meditation. Meditation practice provides us with the tools needed to reflect deeply and directly on our own experience and connect to our hearts, body, and sense perceptions as the ways through which we connect to our world. In particular, we will explore the way meditation was taught by the Venerable Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche, and how it is presented in the The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma.
This mostly silent retreat will be primarily focused on meditation, but the daily schedule will also include guided meditation and talks, yoga and walking meditation, discussion groups, readings, free time, and individual meetings with a meditation instructor. Led by veteran Profound Treasury Teachers Jane and Derek Kolleeny.
